I don’t know about you guys, but the first thing I’m doing when the coronavirus pandemic comes to an end is buying a concert ticket. However, that seems like a fantasy of the distant future. Until now.

Dr. Fauci is quoted as saying that “If everything goes right, this will occur some time in the fall of 2021, so that by the time we get to the early to mid-fall, you can have people feeling safe performing onstage as well as [having] people in the audience.” Of course, this is dependent on getting 70-85% of the population vaccinated, according to the New York Times. And venues may have to uphold many of the precautions we have become accustomed to— wearing masks, social distancing, etc— especially if concert goers are inside.

The pandemic has taken a massive toll on the live music industry, with the COVID-19 relief bill allotting $10 billion to independent concert halls. Of course they’re eager to get customers back. But as of now, everything is highly dependent on the effectiveness of vaccine roll-out and keeping cases at bay.

Despite this, Fauci offers a light at the end of the (very very long) tunnel, stating: “We’ll be back in theatres— performers will be performing, audiences will be enjoying it. It will happen.”

So follow the CDC guidelines, get vaccinated, and stay hopeful. Concerts will make a return. And the day can’t come soon enough.
